Art In Ukraine And Contemporary Painters

Expressionism painting is the painting developed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Expressionism paintings were opposed to academic standards and emphasized artist's subjective emotion. Expressionism painting is defined by it's violent colors, exaggerated lines. Expressionism paintings are an expression of inner experience.

The most well-known expressionism paintings belong to such artists as Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, James Ensor, Edvard Munch, Oskar Kokoschka, Egon Schiele. At the beginning of the 20th century expressionism was developed in the work of three artists' groups: Die Brucke, the Fauves, Der Blaue Reiter.

The art of Ukraine has always been a part of the East European culture and when it goes about such major artistic movement as expressionism there are also artists in Ukraine that work in such style as expressionism. Ukraine also granted the world prominent and worldwide known artists. In the 1960s artists in Ukraine started moving away from the ideological and political tenets trying to provide their paintings with emotional arrangement.

Such events as perestroika and the independence in Ukraine in 1991 played a vital role in the development of the art of Ukraine. New forms of art appeared, such as body art, performance, installation, etc.

Along with the development of the new forms of art in Ukraine the system of state supervising of culture gradually vanished. A new alternative source of sponsoring from commercial organizations and other foundations had started not so long ago.

The system of commercial galleries in Ukraine is not perfect yet. However, to assist the art of Ukraine in developing the Association of the Ukrainian Galleries was created the goal of which is to defend the interests of private galleries and exhibitions. There is a Soros foundation that contributes into art of Ukraine development granting well established artists with some assistance for realization of their projects.

Despite of all the difficulties contemporary painters in Ukraine keep contributing into art development. We can view their works in a number of online galleries and exhibitions.
