Surrealism Movement. Art Painting Contemporary

Modern art period consists of a number of movements, it is associated with worldwide known names of artists and their paintings. The movement of that period impacted the further development of art and these days there are a lot of followers of that period tendencies. Definition of surrealism. Surrealism movement began in the early-1920s and soon became not only art movement but also cultural one that impacted various areas of life around the globe. Such scope of the movement development made it possible to define surrealism as a revolutionary movement. All the works of surrealist painters feature similar elements – the works depict surprise and unexpected juxtapositions. The emerge of the movement is closely connected with the Dada activities of World War I.

The surrealism movement followers organized meetings in cafes in the mid-1920s to discuss surrealism theories and to play collaborative drawing games. Among the artists were Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, Enrico Donati, Alberto Giacometti, Valentine Hugo, Méret Oppenheim,and others. Along with the Paris group there was a group formed in Brussels, to which René Magritte, Paul Nougé, Marcel Lecomte, Camille Goemans, and André Souris belonged.

During the 1930s the surrealism movement went on developing, a group appeared in Britain, where the London International Surrealist Exhibition of 1936 took place. The movement existed during the World War II and the Post War period, and as for the end of surrealism there are no unanimously accepted decisions. Despite of difference of opinion regarding this event, the fact that these days there are a number of surrealism artists worldwide and the admires of this painting style, it is possible to state that the movement had not disappeared without a trace. It goes on living on a number of today's painters works.
