Impressionist Art. Art Contemporary Gallery

Edgar Degas, along with Renoir, Monet, and Pissarro and some other artists were the starters and the members of the Parisian group of artists known as Impressionists. Impressionism painting became revolutionary one defied the very notion of 'classical' painters, such as Michelangelo and other artists of the Renaissance period. Impressionist painting depicts the 'mood' of the moment. To create such an effect impressionists had colors directly applied on canvas. Such Impressionist paintings were rejected by the French Academy because of non-conventional subjects chosen by the artists and own personality of the artist created via visible brush strokes and use of direct colors. Thus, been unable to display their works the artists of the group were unable to sell their works.

However, in 1874 the artists managed to display their works for the first time. Impressionist art was criticized severely by critics, and Monet and Cezanne were even singled out, and were slated for their "unfinished and sketchy" works. The group went on fighting with the French Academy Salon and displaying individually up until 1894. With the lapse of time, Cezanne and Monet distanced themselves from the group, while Gauguin and Seurat joined the group. Summing up the fact related to Impressionist art it is possible to resume that the style presented a new view to the artistic world, and became one of the first revolutions in the art universe.
